Why is back strengthening important for every athlete?
Back pain is one of the most common problems among athletes and active individuals. The reason? Weak core muscles, poor posture, and excessive strain on the spine. The good news is that with the right training, you can strengthen your back, improve your posture, and significantly reduce pain.
Top 5 Recommended Exercises
1. Plank
The classic core exercise. Lie on your stomach, lift your body onto your forearms and toes, keeping your body straight like a board. Hold for 30-60 seconds. Repeat for 3 sets.
2. Glute Bridge
Lie on your back, bend your knees, lift your pelvis upwards until your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees. Excellent for strengthening glutes and lower back muscles.
3. Bird Dog
On all fours, simultaneously raise your right arm and left leg, keeping your body balanced. 10 repetitions per side. A great exercise for spinal balance and stability.
4. Cat-Cow Stretch
On all fours, alternately arch your back upwards (cat) and then drop your belly downwards (cow). 10 repetitions. Flexes and releases the spine.
5. Dead Bug
Lie on your back, raise your arms and legs into the air, alternately lower an opposing arm and leg to the floor. An advanced exercise for strengthening the deep core.
